Overview
Liberty Syndicates is the trading name of Liberty Syndicate Management Ltd™, and is one of the largest Managing Agents operating in the Lloyd’s market, with an underwriting capacity of £830m in 2008 and 167 employees located in offices in London, Paris, Cologne and Madrid.
Our underwriting team is divided between Insurance, including Property, Contingent Lines and Marine and Reinsurance, which is split between Worldwide, London and Casualty. We aim to provide our clients with:
- A depth of underwriting and claims handling expertise
- First-class financial security
- Financial protection against a diverse range of risks
- High levels of service
As a participant in the Lloyd’s market, the Syndicate benefits from A ratings from Standard & Poor’s, A.M. Best and Fitch. In addition, Liberty Syndicates is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Liberty Mutual Group, rated A by A.M. Best and A- by Standard & Poor’s.

History
Liberty Syndicates was established in 1994. Backed by Liberty Corporate Capital Ltd, it was one of the first corporate vehicles at Lloyd’s, managing Syndicate 190 for the 1995 account and Syndicate 282 for the 1996 account. The two Syndicates were merged to create Syndicate 4472, which commenced underwriting in January 2005.
Since 2001, the combined capacity of the Syndicate has grown from £384m to £830m in 2008, making Liberty Syndicates one of the leading Managing Agents operating in the Lloyd’s market.

Liberty Syndicates is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Liberty Mutual Group.
Liberty Mutual Insurance Company is a leading global insurer and the fifth largest property and casualty insurer in the US. At the end of 2007, it had $23.5bn in annual consolidated revenue, and more than 40,000 employees in over 900 offices throughout the world. Liberty Mutual Group is based in Boston, Massachusetts, where it was founded in 1912.
